Update - Incident in Ernster

Since 8:00 p.m., the village of Ernster has once again been supplied with electricity thanks to the commissioning of generators. Creos teams remain mobilised to ensure continuity of supply and to continue the necessary operations following the incident that occurred in the afternoon. Creos thanks the affected customers for their patience and understanding.

Luxembourg, 1 September 2026 – On Tuesday, 1 September, at around 1:40 p.m., a medium-voltage transformer caught fire on Rue Principale in Ernster, near the Duerfplaz car park. The cause of the incident is not known at this stage. An internal investigation will be carried out to determine the cause.

As a safety precaution, the affected transformer substation was disconnected from the distribution grid to allow the emergency services to intervene safely. The fire was quickly brought under control and extinguished by the firefighters on site.

As a result of the shutdown, the electricity supply is currently interrupted throughout the locality of Ernster.

In order to restore the electricity supply as quickly as possible, two generators are currently being transported to Ernster. Creos teams are on site and will put them into operation as soon as technical and safety conditions allow.

At this stage, Creos estimates that the generators could be operational at around 8:00 p.m. However, this is only an indicative estimate and may change depending on the progress of the operations on site.

The medium-pressure gas pressure regulating station located in the immediate vicinity of the transformer was not affected by the fire. It was inspected following the intervention of the firefighters and continues to ensure the normal gas supply to customers.

Creos teams and the CGDIS emergency services were mobilised to secure the area. The safety of people and the continuity of supply remain Creos' top priorities.
