Electricity safety tips

The major risk associated with electricity is the risk of electrocution, which can occur as a result of faulty equipment or through inadvertence or carelessness.

Electricity safety tips

Have your electrical installations checked by a professional

Respect standards in the bathroom

Never use electrical appliances (light switches, hairdryers, shavers, radios, etc.) with your feet in water or your hands wet: you considerably increase the risk of electrocution.

Observe a few basic principles

Know where the main circuit breaker is. It's usually near the electrical distribution board. The circuit breaker cuts off the current to your entire electrical installation.

Safety precautions in the event of flooding

Warning! In the event of flooding of an electrical installation, water represents a real danger of electrocution. If your home is flooded, please follow the advice below:

  • Never go near a flooded electrical installation;
  • Contact the Creos Breakdown & Emergency service on 8002-9900 to de-energise and secure your electrical installation;
  • If you are in danger, call the emergency services on 112 ;
  • Stay in a dry place and do not use lifts or any other electrical equipment;
  • Never go back to look for a forgotten object in a flooded area without first checking that your electrical installation has been de-energised;
  • If you have been evacuated from your home, do not return unless you have been invited to do so;
  • Have your electrical installation checked by an approved electrician before switching it back on.

Caution under the power lines

Medium- and high-voltage overhead power lines blend naturally into the landscape and we tend not to notice them any more. However, there is a real danger beneath power lines, as they are only 6 metres above the ground.

Advice in the event of an accident

  • Block all access to the accident site to prevent further accidents (minimum distance 10 metres).
  • Never touch an injured person if they are still in contact with the power line; you could be electrocuted yourself.
  • Do not touch the cables, even if they have fallen to the ground.

Call Creos urgently on 8002-9900 (free number 24/7). Alert the fire brigade, the Civil Protection 112 and the police 113.
