In most cases, our dispatchers can take rapid action remotely from the control room by manoeuvring the network. In other cases, a team has to be dispatched to the site, which extends the response time.

Any medium voltage power failure reported in a locality does not necessarily affect the entire municipality.

Explanation of incident causes

The exact causes of a power cut are often not known until later. Nevertheless, most outages are due to the following causes:

• Damage caused by a third party: damage to an underground cable during excavation work, vehicle collision, short circuit caused by an animal on electrical equipment in a substation, fire, vandalism
• Internal: defective equipment, installation or contact fault, operational error, unknown cause
• Weather conditions: severe weather, trees or branches falling on a power line, flooding
• Downstream network: fault in a customer installation
• Upstream network: fault in the high-voltage network
